Johanneke de Moor, Head of Category Management and Supply Chain at HBM Machines shares how their partnership with APL Logistics has transformed their business.

For over 50 years, HBM Machines has been a trusted supplier of tools and machinery for the workplace. What began as a local brick-and-mortar retailer in the Netherlands in 1972 has grown into a cross-border e-commerce operation serving customers in Belgium, Germany, and France. But with that expansion came new challenges—especially in the logistics and supply chain side of the business.

“As we continued to grow, we started a project to look at our logistics service partner,” says Johanneke de Moor. “With every improvement, we see if we can make it as scalable as possible.”


After evaluating several potential providers, HBM selected APL Logistics (APLL) as its long-term partner. The collaboration quickly moved from planning to action. One of the most recent joint projects involved building an API connection between HBM’s systems and APLL’s—allowing for a near real-time exchange of logistics data. “One of the advantages of APLL is that they have a lot of data about all our shipments,” says de Moor. “We improved within that project to have that data near real time in our system and to have better visibility on all our orders and shipments.”
