Customer Advisory: Escalating Security Concerns in Ecuador
January 11, 2024,
As of Monday, January 8, 2024, the President of Ecuador has declared a nationwide State of Emergency. This decree comes as a direct response to escalating security concerns surrounding the prison escape of a notorious gang leader. The State of Emergency order will last for 60 days commencing on January 8, which includes a curfew from 11 PM to 5 AM local time.
Furthermore, there are reports that the nation is experiencing extreme internal disruptions, including explosions, police abductions, and prison disturbances. The main cities of Quito and Guayaquil are most affected.
As a result of this State of Emergency, APL Logistics anticipates the following operational delays for shipments coming in and out of Ecuador:
- Cargo transit time
- Obtaining permits
- Customs clearances
- Governmental procedures and approvals
Operational teams are working diligently with authorities to assess potential impacts on Ecuador’s ports, airports, and borders. APL Logistics is committed to keeping you informed throughout this dynamic situation, and you will be receiving updated reports accordingly.
For the latest shipment information, please get in touch with your APL Logistics representative and/or track your shipments, including vessel position. A Business Continuity Plan (BCP) is in place to facilitate remote operational support if required.
