Customer Advisory: Update 1 – Canadian Railways CPKC & CN Announce Lockout

As of 12:01 EDT today, Thursday, August 22, the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and the Canadian National (CN) railroads have formally locked out 9,300 union rail employees represented by the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC). This will mark the first time CPKC and CN have shut down simultaneously.
The work stoppage is anticipated to have far-reaching effects across the North American supply chain. Canadian ports will not be able to move cargo over rail, and US railroads will not accept containers destined for Canada. Businesses transloading cargo from ocean containers to truck trailers will also experience increased pressure. However, the CN and CPKC routes in Mexico and the US will not be affected.
