Customer Advisory: Port of Long Beach Container Incident
September 10, 2025
As reported in the media, on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, operations at Pier G of the Port of Long Beach were temporarily halted after a container ship, Mississippi, operated by MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company), began listing heavily while docked. The imbalance caused approximately 67 containers to fall into the harbor, with another 70 collapsing on deck. The vessel had recently arrived from Yantian, China, and was offloading cargo when the incident occurred.
The U.S. Coast Guard responded swiftly, and cleanup efforts began immediately. No injuries were reported. Investigations into the cause of the listing are ongoing.
