Customer Advisory: Cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka & South India

APL Logistics wishes to update you on the operational impacts and recovery efforts following Cyclone Ditwah, which has affected Sri Lanka and the southern coasts of India, including Chennai, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh.
Sri Lanka – Post-Cyclone Update
- Weather & Safety: Conditions in Colombo have normalized. Authorities report 465 fatalities and nearly 366 missing, with rescue operations ongoing. Flooding risk has subsided, and recovery efforts are underway.
- Power & Connectivity: Electricity and internet services have largely been restored in Colombo and suburbs.
- Road Access: Major roads are open; some secondary routes remain under repair, causing minor disruptions.
- Emergency Services: Relief efforts continue for affected families.
- APL Logistics CFS Facilities: No direct impact; operations have normalized.
- Port Operations: Fully operational.
- Factory Deliveries: Delays persist due to localized infrastructure damage. Our teams are working with transport providers to expedite shipments.
South India – Chennai & Surrounding Regions
- Current Situation: Cyclone Ditwah has caused severe weather and operational disruptions across Chennai port and associated facilities.
- Container Terminal / Port Operations: Resumed with minimum productivity. (12-13moves/Hr)
- APL Logistics CFS – Fully operational (APLL Staffs – 100% reported & CFS, surveyor, labors – 65% reported)
- Empty Yards: Started operations, but slow. Heavy water clogging, very low productivity, and skeletal staff turnaround.
- Approach Roads: Terminal, CFS and Empty yards: Badly affected still.
- Liner Support: Normal.
In summary, delays may be experienced in shipments and factory deliveries across Sri Lanka and South India as a result of Cyclone Ditwah, with full operational recovery dependent on weather conditions and infrastructure repairs.
