APL Logistics Opens First-of-Its-Kind Flow-Through Center in Jakarta

For Immediate Release

JAKARTA, Indonesia – March 13, 2025 — Located in North Jakarta’s KBN Marunda Industrial Zone, APL Logistics’ new facility addresses the need for smarter, more sustainable industrial growth in line with Indonesia’s increasingly significant role in international trade. Having established their presence in Indonesia since 1999, APL Logistics’ thriving business over the last 5 years has aptly demonstrated the potential of Indonesia’s market and that the resilience of its people is here to stay.

Strategically Positioned to Support Growth in the Burgeoning Indonesian Market

The 32,000 SQM facility is strategically located as a hub with access to key transportation routes from Marunda, including the nearby Tanjung Priok Port less than 10 km away. The site, dubbed the “APL Logistics Marunda Flow Center,” also offers connections to rail infrastructure via Kampung Bandan Station (19.3 km from the site) and air freight via the Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (36 km).

APL Logistics notes that further plans are underway to establish a barge service from Marunda directly to Tanjung Priok. Dileepa Dissanayake, Director of Country Operations for Indonesia, adds: “We are currently assessing the feasibility of establishing a barge connection between our Marunda facility and Tanjun Priok port. This would enable the transportation of containers via water instead of by road, thereby reducing road traffic and transit time. This initiative aligns with the sustainability principles at the core of this development.”

The addition of this facility will also help expand APL Logistics’ focus on growing exports in Indonesia through strategic investments in nodes, technology, and people. Meanwhile, Supriyatno, Director of PT KBN Prima Logistik (KPL), stated: “As a service provider at APL Logistics Marunda Flow Center, we are proud to reaffirm our commitment to supporting the growth and development of APL Logistics’ business in Indonesia. We believe this collaboration will make a meaningful contribution to the advancement of the logistics sector in the country.”

A Commitment to Sustainability

A focus on sustainability has been central to the APL Logistics Marunda Flow Center since the facility’s inception and is reflected in the development’s LEED Silver certification. To qualify as a LEED Silver site, projects must meet stringent criteria regarding energy efficiency, water savings, indoor environmental quality, and sustainable materials usage.

For the Marunda Flow Center, this meant constructing the facility from locally sourced materials while prioritizing energy savings and operational efficiency. The facility features solar panels that provide on-site power for around 10% of operations, translucent sheet roofing that maximizes natural light, and an automated HVAC system that maintains optimal temperatures within buildings while reducing energy consumption.

APL Logistics adds that a commitment to the local community has also been a significant part of the project, with more than 100 new jobs created for locals. “We firmly believe that major growth in this opportune market is imminent. Further to the Marunda Flow Center, we are also working on larger plans to support this growth even further across Java Island, beginning in West Java and with further expansion to Central and East Java to follow,” Dissanayake remarked.

World-Class Infrastructure

In addition to its sustainable design, the Marunda Flow Center incorporates advanced automation as part of the group’s ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency and data accuracy. The facility boasts world-class flow-through features, including inbound and outbound gantry-mounted scanning systems that record cargo weight and dimensions in real time, as well as PO scanners that automatically detect and divert incorrect POs as odd cartons.

The Marunda Flow Center also has around 6,800 racking positions with a total theoretical capacity of 20,000 cubic meters (CBM). These features highlight the facility’s role as a high-throughput, operationally efficient option for companies shipping through Indonesia. In addition, the facility has 42 docks, including yard space that can accommodate up to 300 forty-foot equivalent containers and parking for over 100 trucks to help manage the flows during traditional peaks.

Azfar Khan, APL Logistics’ Regional Vice President for Southeast Asia, sums up: “We believe in Indonesia. We believe in the growth coming to the area, and that’s why we wanted to create a state-of-the-art, world-class investment here, which also makes a statement about our commitment to sustainability. That’s where this facility comes in.”

This commitment was further affirmed by Agus Hendardi, President Director of PT Kawasan Berikat Nusantara (KBN), who affirmed: “APL Logistics’ aspirations are closely aligned with the vision of Kawasan Berikat Nusantara, as we endeavor to build an integrated ecosystem that connects industrial zones, ports, and sustainable, world-class logistics services.”
